Vantec AeroFlow FX 92 CPU Cooler Reviewed

Ok, a few days ago I took a look at the Vantec AeroFlow FX120, today I've got the little brother to that cooler, the AeroFlow FX 92. How does it compare to the larger version? Read on to find out...

Tech Specs,Features or the Basic Info:

AeroFlow FX 92

Premium Copper Heat-Pipe Direct Touch (HDT) CPU Cooler with 92mm PWM Fan

The Vantec AeroFlow FX 92 is a high performance CPU cooler. It incorporates a specialized 8mm diameter copper heat-pipe for optimum heat transfer. With its unique Heat-Pipe Direct Touch Technology (HDT), the heat-pipe is in direct contact with the processor and minimizes thermal resistance. Combine with a powerful 92mm PWM fan and fan vibration dampener, the thin & lightweight heat sink design allows the fan to easily dissipate the heat accumulated and minimizes noise. Excellent compatibility with its 3-in-1 mounting bracket, the Vantec AeroFlow FX 92 is a perfect choice for keeping your processor cool.

Package Contents:

AeroFlow FX 92 CPU Cooler, 3-In-1 Mounting Bracket, Thermal Grease, User Manual

A Better Look at Things:

If you read my review of the AeroFlow FX 120, then you'll be familiar with the package, it's virtually the same, just smaller.

Same contents as well, mounting brackets, thermal compound, screws and a user manual.

The Vantec AeroFlow FX 92 looks exactly the same as the FX 120, just a bit smaller. It utilizes the direct touch heatpipe system where the heatpipes are bare on the bottom and actually touch your CPU for maximum thermal conductivity.

Installation, Testing and Comparison:

I had no problems installing it on my Gigabyte G33 mATX motherboard with an Intel C2D6420 CPU.

Ambient temperature during testing was approximately 19C (+/- .3C). For testing I used Orthos Stress Prime to get load on the CPU and I used CoreTemp to log the temperatures and then I averaged them out.

First up we've got testing with the fan hooked to the CPU header:

as you can see from the charts it isn't the best at cooling in comparison to others, but it still does a very good job overall.

Next up we've got testing with the fan connected to the molex or at full speed:

We see a nice drop in temperatures here, still though it falls fairly low in our comparison charts, even though it's low it still has very good performance.

And finally we've got testing with no fan at all to really see how this cooler performs:

not bad, still well below the max temp for this CPU...

The fan is a bit loud when running at full speed, and me personally I don't care for loud fans, though of course other people might not care at all.

Summary and Comments:

For it's small size the Vantec AeroFlow FX 92 does a decent job at cooling.

Since it's so small it shouldn't be a problem fitting in most cases, so if you're space limited but still want decent cooling be sure to check this one out.

DragonSteelMods gives the AeroFlow FX 92 CPU Cooler a 4.5 out of 5 score.

Pros:

-Well made

-Decent cooling ability

-Small size

-Easy installation

Cons:

-Loud fan

I would like to thank Vantec for the chance to review the AeroFlow FX 92 CPU Cooler and for their continued support of DSM.
