Asus DRW-22B1LT DVD/RW Drive
A Better Look at Things
Installation, Testing and Comparison
Summary and Comments

A Better Look at Things:

The Asus DRW-22B1LT comes in a rectangular cardboard box with plenty of reading material on the package. On the front of the box is a picture of the drive and the Asus logo in the top left corner with the model number next below it and a large 22x22 label. Above the picture of the drive is a listing of burn speeds for various media types and the LightScribe logo.

Also listed on the front, we see Asus have included a version of Nero8 Essentials and a white DVD face panel for those who still have beige boxes.

On the back are description panels about Optimal Tuning Strategy (OTS), E-Green and How It Works, which give short description about each of these features in seven different languages.

The sides of the box list the features of the drive in the same seven languages.

Once the box is opened, we find the Asus DRW-22B1LT drive, a white face panel, the Nero8 Essentials CD, four installation screws and a quick installation guide.

Looking at the Asus DRW-22B1LT we find it measures 14.5 x 17 x 4 cm with a black face plate on the front. On this face plate we see silver writing with the Asus logo in the center of the drive drawer door, and logos for the various formats which the drive supports. Below the door is a LED light, an eject button and an opening for manually ejecting discs (the paper clip tip eject). The white drive plate has the same writing and features except in gray ink.

Beyond the face plate, the rest of the Asus DRW-22B1LT is silver. On the top we find the drive information label including model and serial number. The back of the drive houses the SATA data and power connectors.

Now what differentiates this DVD burner from its brethren is the inclusion of E-Green Engine which is a technology designed to close down drive applications when not in use to help conserve energy which in turns helps the environment by decreasing CO2 emissions and reducing the depletion of trees. Go Asus!

Asus employs something called Optimal Tuning Strategy which adjusts the function of the DRW-22B1LT depending on media and drive variations as well as operating temperature. This technology is supposed to reduce the chance of coaster production.

Finally the inclusion of the AVRS (Auto Vibration Reducing System) is used to reduce vibration and noise induced by unbalanced mass of rotating machinery. With AVRS, Asus DRW-22B1L provides high readability and playability.
