JetArt HDD Guard Cooler

When people talk about cooling their systems, the first thing that pops up is the CPU, and then the video card would be mentioned next. Most people never think of cooling a hard drive, that is one of the components that is often forgot about in the cooling loop. You have to wonder why though, it is probably the most important part of the system, after all the hard drive is where all your data is stored, if that goes then you loose everything. Today for review I have the JetArt HDD Guard, it is a hard drive cooler that really works, and it works silently, so read on to learn more about this great product…

A Better Look at Things

:

As always the first thing we look at is the packaging, the package for the JetArt HDD Guard is similar to other JetArt packaging, on the front we can plainly see the HDD Guard. The package is the easy open kind so no fighting with the clamshell here…

on the back of the package we find all the specs and features listed as well, along with installation instructions. Installation is very easy as you can see from the pictures.

Once we get the package open we find not much comes with the HDD Guard, not much is really needed actually, only screws for the installation.

The JetArt HDD Guard is all aluminum, black in color obviously, it is fairly lightweight and very solidly made.

On the underside we can get a good look at the fan itself, the HDD Guard uses a standard Molex connection for power, but it’s the pass through type so it shouldn’t be a problem with the connection.

Installation, Testing and Comparison

Installation is very easy, you’ll just need a standard phillips head screwdriver to finish the job.

The JetArt HDD Guard uses the existing holes on the bottom of your hard drive for mounting/installation.

The HDD Guard can be installed in two different positions as there are two holes in the front and a long oval holes in the back. Mounting position depends on the type of drive you hard, where the chipset/motor controller is etc, and your personal preference. Being it has a pass through connector you can connect the HDD Guard to your hard drive and then the Molex into that to power both devices at the same time.

One of the things I do like about the JetArt HDD Guard is that it is very thin, it does not take up a lot of space in your computer.

On to the actual performance of the HDD Guard, for testing basically I checked the temps of the hard drive with SpeedFan without the HDD Guard and with the HDD Guard and compared them to see if there was any improvement in the temperatures of the hard drive. The hard drive is a 40gig Seagate 7200.7, IDE flavor… The ambient temperature during testing was approximately 22C.

Well we can see the HDD Guard really works at dropping the temps of this hard drive, there is a huge difference with and without it installed. Another thing to note is that is is virtually silent, I could not hear it all over my other fans in my system, it did not add any extra noise to my system.
