Lapworks Attache Laptop Stand

If youre looking for a sleek and elegant solution in a laptop stand with a professional look and appeal thats loaded with features, then the Attach Laptop Stand is probably what youre looking for. With two built-in fans for cooling, 4-port USB 2.0 hub for connectivity, off-on power switch, two fold-a-way support shelves for stability, and push-button 4-position elevation settings to maximize ergonomic viewing, the Attach is the only desktop stand youll ever need.

The bonus with this unit is the Aluminum face plate its a big heat sink that sucks in the heat that the fans dont blow out. And the units concave design creates an air space that expedites the convection process further cooling your notebook.

To activate the fans, simply connect the cable included with the unit to any USB port and youre ready to go. The fans operate on a Hydraulic bearing system that is very dependable, quiet and long lasting. They produce enough air flow to keep the air moving under your laptop/ notebook which helps it run cooler longer.

A 12-7/8 wide base will provide stability and support for the widest of laptops/ notebooks. The push-button elevation settings provide 4 inclines up to 42 maximum. Please see the product tour or product video for additional information.

A Better Look at Things

:

With the Lapworks Attache Laptop Stand there is no fancy packaging, just a ziplock style bag with the product inside. it was packaged very well though with lots of bubble wrap. Included with mine was a folder with PR information as well, retail customer won’t get one of those I’m sure..

in the center of the Attache are two small fans to help keep your laptop cool.

The included USB cable is a shielded type, it’s thick and well made.

Along the front, or bottom edge are two rubber padded stops that fold away for storage, this helps to keep your laptop in place when on the Attache, between those we find a small Lapworks logo badge.

Overall the Attache feels well made, with an aluminum face plate with the rest made of plastic. It’s fairly lightweight, but thick so it’s not quite what I would call portable.

On the bottom we find another identifying sticker, here we can also see the opposite side of the fans and we also find two more rubber feet to help keep it in place.

On the left side we find one USB port, a mini USB port, power switch and a power LED indicator. On the top edge of the left side of the Attache there are three more USB ports bringing the total to four additional USB ports for your laptop.

The Attache can be adjusted to suit you needs with the push of a button on the right side, the stand moves up and down to lift your laptop up to change the viewing angle.

Installation, Testing and Comparison -Dell Latitude P4M 1.8Ghz CPU:

My Laptop is a Dell Latitude C640 with a P4M 1.8Ghz CPU in it.

Here are several pictures of my laptop on the Lapworks Attache:

Using the Attache with my laptop works well, it adds a nice incline to make typing more comfortable, having the Attache inclined all the way up makes it great for watching movies and/or doing presentations.

For testing I used Prime95 to get load on my CPU, running for an hour at time, over the course of several days. Ambient room temperature was approximately 19C (+/- .3C).

As we can see from the testing the Attache does make a small difference when using it with the fans turned on with my laptop, but didn’t do much when the fans were turned off. Overall we see a very slight drop in temperatures, nothing exciting at all going on here.

Then again though we have to remember that the Attache is not sold as a laptop cooler, but as a laptop stand. So as a laptop stand it works fine, but a cooler not so much…

I do really like the additional USB ports especially since my laptop only has one USB port on it.

I noticed no real difference in battery life while using the fans and not, so apparently they don’t pull too much power.

{mospagebreak title=Installation, Testing and Comparison -HP Pavillion AMD X2 1.8GHZ CPU}

Installation, Testing and Comparison -HP Pavillion AMD X2 1.8 GHZ CPU:

The second laptop I have is an HP Pavillion DV6000 series, with an AMD Turion dual core CPU running at 1.8Ghz. The silver color of the laptop matches the Attache nicely.

Here are several pictures of the HP on the Attache, with the fan connected and not, in the last picture you can see the bright blue LED power indicator.

The testing on the HP is a bit different as it is a dual core laptop, so I used Orthos Stress Prime to put load on both cores at the same time.

Of course this is extreme conditions here, I really don’t know anyone that will be using both cores at 100% for hours at a time, but it gives us an idea of the temperatures for comparison purposes.

Ambient temperature was approximately 19C (+/- .3C). All the same tests were performed over several days time and averaged out to get the results shown below. Orthos Stress Prime was run for one hour at a time and the highest temperatures were recorded.

As you can see there really is not much of a difference in the temperatures, we see higher temps actually when using the Attache, but it’s only a couple degrees difference and again not many people will be running full 100% load on both cores as I did for my testing.

We see a big drop in temps at idle, but idle temps don’t mean too much really…

One note about using the Attache with the HP is that I found it prone to fall over easily, the HP has its battery located in the back, or at the top of the Attache when being used thus making it top heavy and unstable. I went to adjust the screen and the whole thing fell over, I barely even touched it at all. Even when using the Attache at it’s lowest setting this problem was there, it created an unstable see-saw type of situation where just lightly touching the screen cause the whole thing to fall backwards.

Using my Dell Latitude I didn’t have this problem at all since the battery, and most of the weight was located at the bottom of the Attache Laptop Stand.

Summary:

The Lapworks Attache Laptop Stand is very well made and makes using your laptop a more comfortable experience. The adjustable elevations come in handy for various types of situations depending on what you’re doing at the time with your laptop.

The additional USB ports are a very nice addition as well.

While the results of my testing with both laptops are not that impressive, we do have to remember that the Attache is not being sold as a laptop cooler, it is sold as a laptop stand, so the cooling part is basically a bonus.

It does kind of bother me about the stability issue with the HP laptop, but that’s something specific to that style laptop and not all will be affected by it. The HP laptop has it’s battery located in the back, so more weight is at the top of the incline of the Attache, essentially making it top-heavy and prone to fall over if not careful.

DragonSteelMods gives the Lapworks Attache Laptop Stand a 4 out of 5 score.

Pros:

-Very quiet

-Well made

-Looks good

-Adjustable

-Adds USB ports

Cons:

-Tilts over easily (depending on laptop)

-Doesn’t really cool laptop

I would like to thank Lapworks for the chance to review the Attache Laptop Stand and for their continued support of DSM.
