Mini Microphone for iPhone 3G / iPod Touch 2G / iPod Nano 4G Review

There’s no doubt that the iPod is a great product, at least most people feel that way about it. I’ve got an iPod nano 4th that I use rarely because I like my Zune better actually… but that’s another story. So the iPod nano is a great product as sales have shown, but did you know that it can also record? Yes, the iPod nano 4th can act like a digital tape recorder to be used for whatever basically. Though if you look at your iPod you won’t see anything listed about recording, it’s not one of the options, but insert the product I’ve got today for review and like magic the option Voice Memo appears on the screen and you can begin recording. The product is called the Mini Microphone for iPhone 3G / iPod Touch 2G / iPod nano 4th, odd name but it describes it perfectly. The product is very small, a bit bigger than a pill you might take for a headache and it works perfectly. Read onto check it out…

Unboxing

The product comes in a plastic clamshell that’s easy to open actually, not much very special about it though, just lists specs and basic directions on the back.

It looks like a black pill that you might take when you’re sick, sort of. One side has a pass though on it so you can attach a string or lanyard to make sure you don’t lose it and the other has holes, that’s the microphone side.

It just slides apart to access the connector, very easy.

Installation, Testing and Comparison:

Here’s my iPod nano 4th, it’s inside of an Otterbox Defender Series case.

Here’s the menu before plugging in the microphone, nothing about Voice or recording is listed:

The microphone fits even with my iPod in the case, which is nice.

Pop it in and like magic the option for Voice Memo appears on the menu:

Clicking the option gives you two more choices, one to Start Recording and the other to listen to your recordings that you made:

Click on Start Recording and you’re greeted with a screen with a microphone on it, time, date, recording time and sound level meter as well. You can push the center button on the iPod to create chapter marks.

There’s not much else to this product, it works and actually works very well, it can pick up low sounds with no problems.
