These days, USB Devices are ubiquitous.  From digital cameras to cell phones to portable hard drives, somewhere a USB port will usually be involved.  The function of the USB port is to either transfer information or to power/charge devices.  Depending on the computer, some USB ports do not have enough power to provide sufficient charge these USB driven devices.

This is where USBFever comes to lend a helping hand. One of their products is the USB 2.0 USB Extension Cable with Extra Power inlet. This is a standard looking USB cable with a five pin mini USB connector on one end and two USB Type A connectors at the other. More extensive details about USB cables and connections can be found at Wiki HERE.

USBFever recommends this cable for:

1. rapid charging (if single usb socket is enough to power up the device)

2. enhanced charging (if single usb socket is NOT enough to power up the device, i.e. for some models of PDA, when the battery is very low, usb-power is not enough to power it up)

Let’s see if this cable measures up.

A Better Look at Things

:

The USB 2.0 USB Extension Cable with Extra Power inlet arrives in a clear plastic bag with no instructions. The cable is about the same thickness as most standard USB 2.0 cables which feature Type A and Type B connections at opposite ends.

The cable is marked as Copartner USB Shielded High Speed Cable 2.0 Revision 28AWG/2C+24AWG/2C.

The cable is 83 centimeters in length and is fully shielded to prevent interference.

Installation, Testing and Comparison

I know there were no instructions included with the cable, but if you don’t know how to use this cable, then please stop reading this review or anything involving technology and buy an abacus.

The cable works as a data cable with either one or two of the USB Type A plugged in. There was no noticeable speed gain in using both plugs for data transfer.

Unfortunately I did not have many devices to test the charging power of this cable. Luckily, I was able to borrow a Seagate FreeAgent Go drive which uses the same USB split type cable as the one in this review.

There was no noticeable difference between the Seagate provided cable and the one from USBFever.

Summary:

Cables are not the sexiest part of any computer system, and when they work, you take them for granted. But when cables are bad, then life becomes difficult. I am happy to report that this cable does its job and does it well.

DragonSteelMods gives the USB 2.0 USB Extension Cable with Extra Power inlet a 4 out of 5 score.

Pros:

-Provides extra power for powering/charging devices
