Quality video capturing and processing used to be the things relegated to more powerful computers than that of our average desktops, or laptops, but as we all know technology advances exponentially, or so it seems. It’s called the EasyCap and our friends at USBfever have sent it over for review, so continue on to learn a bit more…

A Better Look at Things

:

The EasyCap comes in an easy open plastic clamshell package where you can see the device through the front and all the specs and features are listed on the back.

Opening the package we find the EasyCap USB Device, driver/software CD, quick installation guide and a standard USB extension cable.

The EasyCap does resemble a large USB flash drive, except for a few cables coming out of it, making it very portable and easy to use with any computer you have.

The EasyCap has connections for RCA stereo audio (right/left channels), RCA video and even an S-Video connection.

The casing of the EasyCap is made of a textured hard plastic that actually feels a bit lit rubber. There are numerous ventilation holes on all sides to help keep the capture chipset nice and cool, and an LED indicator to indicate use and power. Overall it feels very well made and durable enough to take anywhere with you.

Installation, Testing and Comparison

As with any audio/video capture system the time it takes to capture is dependent on the length of the media being captured, so there is no real way to measure the performance of the EasyCap, only to really just say that it works and works well.

I used the EasyCap with my video camera and it worked great, I also hooked up a standard CCTV video camera as well, with the help of a BNC – RCA adapter and it worked fine with that also.

The possibilities for using this device are pretty much limited to your imagination and the availability of the proper connections of course, and even then adapters are available for pretty much everything these days.

The device did get warm during use but not overly so, I believe the incorporated ventilation holes do an adequate job of keeping the device nice and cool during use.

Included with the EasyCap USB Device is also Video Editing and Capture software, it’s a little outdated but it does the job very well and is easy to learn and use for anyone. The software is Ulead’s Video Studio 8 DVD SE, it’s actually not even available for purchase from the Ulead site anymore but as I said it does a fine job and should be more than powerful enough for the average user.

Summary:

If you have the need for some type of audio/video capture device I can easily recommend the EasyCap to you, it’s easy to install and use. It’s small size, and light weight make it very portable so you can take it anywhere you need to.

DragonSteelMods gives the EasyCap USB 2.0 Audio-Video Capture Adapter from USBFever a 5 out of 5 score.
