Evercool NP-601 Notebook Cooler

Keeping computers cool is something that everyone strives to do, but when you think of cooling for computers most people overlook their laptops. There are many options to cool your laptop, but today for review I have one from Evercool that features in addition to cooling fans, extra USB ports, a card reader and even two pull out drawers for storage. It’s the Evercool NP-601 Notebook Cooler and I found that not only does it have all these cool features it actually does cool your notebook by almost ten degrees at load…

A Better Look at Things

:

As with other packaging I’ve seen from Evercool, the packaging for the NP-601 Notebook Cooler is very nicely done and contains lots of pictures with all the specs and features listed as well.

Opening up the box we only find the cooler itself, a USB cord and an external power supply.

The Evercool NP-601 Notebook Cooler is very bright and shiny, with some interesting designs on it, and on the bottom edge is a lip that helps to hold your laptop in place.

The cooler is a fairly thick piece of metal, this is where it gets it weight from, but this also makes it very sturdy and durable.

On the left side you’ll find the on/off switch for the fans, with LED indicator, and the connection for the power supply next to that.

On the right side of the Evercool notebook cooler is where the card reader and two additional USB ports are located.

There are two drawers on each side of the cooler, that are spring loaded, you push in and they pop out, to close them you just push all the way in and they lock into place.

Flipping the cooler over we can get a better look at the two 70mm cooling fans, and we can also see the locks for the drawers between them.

Installation, Testing and Comparison

Installation is fairly easy, just plug the included USB extension into your laptops USB port and then into the Evercool notebook cooler, of course you also need to plug in the external adapter as well to fully power the unit. That’s one thing I do not like about this unit the idea that I have to carry around yet another power adapter with my laptop if I wish to take this with me.

Here’s a couple pictures of my laptop, a Dell Latitude C640 siting on the cooler all ready to go:

Well there’s not much else to tell about this product, so let’s jump right into the testing.

For testing I used the internal sensors to tell my the temperature, I used I8kfanGUI from Diefer to do that. It’s an excellent tool that he made specifically for Dell laptops of varying models to help control the fans better than the Dell stock software, and it has some other cool features as well.

To get load on my system I ran Prime95, and to get idle temps I let the system sit for 30minutes just running normal Windows services and anti-virus stuff.

During testing ambient temperature was 20C

Idle:

Stock: 47C (fans on low)

With Evercool: 42C

Load:

Stock: 70C (fans on low)

With Evercool: 62C

You can see from the temp the Evercool notebook cooler does a very good job at keeping my laptop cool, I really wasn’t expecting such a drop in temps.

The fans are also fairly quiet as well, they are much quieter than the fans inside my laptop, so that there is a huge improvement.

Summary:

The Evercool NP-601 Notebook Cooler does what it’s supposed to do and it does it very well. It not only cools your laptop but it has some cool features like the built-in card reader and the storage compartments as well. The idea of the external power supply is a bit of a turn off, but for someone who will leave it in one place like a dock it works really well…

DragonSteelMods gives the Evercool NP-601 Notebook Cooler a 4.5 out of 5 score.
