:

First up we have the packaging, as usual the JetArt packaging is very well done and very informative. The front of the box has a nice picture of the contents along with features listed.

Moving to the back of the box we find a detailed list of features and specifications, and a lot more pictures describing the contents of the box.

Opening the box we find the NP7000 wrapped in plastic for protection along with the included accessories, dual-USB cable and rubber pads.

The dual-USB cable is actually interesting, I personally have never seen anything like it, and found it to be very useful. The male end plugs into your laptop for power, while the female end acts as a replacement for the USB port that the NP7000 is using, and there is the actual power connector that goes into the NP7000.

Continued:

The actual NP7000 notebook cooler is made almost entirely out of black aluminum, the only part that is plastic is the fan mounts, which we’ll see when we turn it over. On the front we have two cooling fans, between them is the JetArt logo and the Xcool logo as well.

The fan grills for the NP7000 are actually part of the cooler itself, and the design just adds to this notebook coolers attractiveness.

As I mentioned the only part of the NP7000 that is plastic is the fan mounts, one the bottom we can also see four rubber feet to prevent the NP7000 from moving around.

On the back of the Xcool, there is a power switch and the power connector. The angle of the Xcool is set so that typing and using you laptop is made more comfortable and easier to use.

The NP7000 is very well made, it is fairly lightweight which makes it portable, the fact that it relies on the power from your notebook and not an external power adapter is a nice touch as well. Overall the Xcool is plain looking, but yet stylish and unobtrusive, basic black goes with pretty much anything.

Installation, Testing and Comparison

Installation is very easy, set your laptop on it, plug USB in and away you go. One thing I noticed, and that I liked about this laptop cooler is that there is not a front edge or lip on it that will block my cd tray from opening, but yet the laptop stays in place with its rubber feet.

The idea of the dual USB cable is really cool, and I think other companies might want to take notice of it, as that is one thing I noticed about most laptop coolers, you will loose access to a USB port.

Here’s a shot of the front of the Xcool and my laptop, notice there is no lip to stop my cd drive from opening, a very nice feature.

The angle of the JetArt Xcool NP7000 is just right for me, it’s not to high, not to low, the angle is very comfortable to type and see the screen.

Well I’m sure you want to know how it performs, actually I was very surprised, so surprised that I ran my tests more times than I usually would just to be sure of the results. I found an almost 10 degree average drop in temps under load while I used the JetArt Xcool notebook cooler.

Ambient temperature during testing was 21C, to get my idle temperatures I booted my laptop and let it sit for 30 minutes, to get load I ran Prime95 Torture test for the same amount of time.

Without Xcool:

Idle: 42.5C

Load: 68.5C

With Xcool:

Idle: 38.5C

Load: 58.5C

Not bad at all for the temperatures under load, this is the first notebook cooler that has gotten such a large temperature difference in my testing, and it is quiet, I could barely hear the fans of the Xcool while they were running.

Summary:

Like I mentioned I was very surprised by the temps I got under load, nicely surprised, this is the first notebook cooler I have owned or reviewed that got such good temperatures while under load. The JetArt Xcool is very well made, lightweight and portable as well, so it will be easy to take with you wherever you go and withstand lots of travel ‘abuse’. If you are looking for a good notebook cooler then I can honestly recommend this one to you.
