Phanteks PH-TC14CS_RD CPU Cooler Review

A Better Look at Things

The Phanteks cooler comes in a small box with picture and specs on it.

When you open the box you’re greeted with the top of the cool, I got the red color for review but there are several other color options available.

Unpacking the box you’ll find the cooler, two 140mm fans, instructions and a small accessory box.

Inside of the accessory box you’ll find a wrench, power adapter and four bags. One bag is labeled AMD and one is labeled Intel for the CPU types. Then there’s a bag of universal parts for mounting and a parts bag of misc stuff.

The one bag has a ‘Y’ power adapter so you can hook both fans to one fan header. There’s also a tube of PH-NDC thermal compound, wire brackets for the fans, vibration dampening strips and small black fan mounts.

I’m using this cooler with an Intel CPU so here are the contents of the Intel bag and the universal bag:

As I mentioned I got the red color version for review, the fin section is red and the rest of the cooler is silver or aluminum in color. The PH-TC14CS is big but it’s surprisingly lightweight, there’s a lot of clearance between the fins and the base. The cooler can use one or two fans or a combination of them, like only one on the top or only one on the bottom.  The cooler itself seems very well made and designed.  Here are several views of the cooler for you so you can get a good idea of what it looks like:

The cooler comes with some of the mounting hardware already installed on the base. It consists of two spring loaded screws for the actual mounts and a single screw in the middle that holds the plate in place.

Here’s the base, it appears flat and it’s not a mirror finish but it is close. I’ve come to learn from experience and the designs of other coolers that you don’t necessarily need a mirror finish on the base to have good thermal conductivity.

Here’s a view from the top of the cooler looking down through the fins:

Included with the cooler are two PH-F140 premium fans that are white and red in color and have a very unique blade design. The fans can be purchased separately as well.

Here’s a description of the fans from the Phanteks site:

Phanteks PH-F140TS 140mm premium fans are designed using the unique Maelström concept technology. With its’ nine blades and MVB feature, it’ll produce a powerful yet silent downdraft airflow. Long lifespan and rotation stability is made possible with the UFB bearing, composed by MOSS and SSC systems. Speed adjustments can be done by using the QSA adaptors. The stylish octagon frame fits 120mm screw holes. PH-F140TS is setting a new standard of performance and compatibility.
