Super Mini Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR USB Adapter Reviewed

Bluetooth is a wireless format that has almost taken on a life of its’ own, it has become extremely popular and is very useful. Pretty much every where you go you’ll see some sort of Bluetooth device in use, the most popular use of course being with cellphones and their wireless headsets, I see people all the time with headsets attached to their heads like little warts on their ears…

Bluetooth is a lot more than just for cellphones though, you can easily connect two or more computers together to create your own little wireless network to share data between them. You can find headphones and even printers that are Bluetooth enabled, and numerous other devices as well.

Today for review I’ve got what is probably the world’s smallest Bluetooth USB adapter, it’s not much bigger than a dime, and that’s only because of the USB part of it, the actual Bluetooth chip is a fraction of the overall size. It’s called the Super Mini Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR USB Adapter, but don’t let it’s diminutive size fool you, it’s fully loaded, being Bluetooth v2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate it allows for longer range and faster file transfers.

A Better Look at Things

:

The Super Mini Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR USB Adapter comes in an easy open plastic clamshell package, on the front you can see the adapter itself along with features listed, the back has a detailed features and spec list.

Opening the package you’ll find the adapter itself, software/driver disc, user manual and the included necklace in a small plastic bag.

I had to break out my Macro close-up lens for this product as it’s so small, you can see from the pictures that the majority of the size is the actual USB connection with the Bluetooth part being only a fraction of the overall product; I’ve included a US dime for scale for size comparison

The included necklace is metal and I’m sure it’s not silver, I would have rather seen a cloth lanyard type of accessory included, the ‘necklace’ is a bit on the cheap side and I know I wouldn’t wear it…

Installation, Testing and Comparison

Installation is easy, pop the disc in, install the software and then insert the Super Mini Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR USB Adapter into an available USB port. Of course you may have to restart your computer after the software installation process but that’s a common occurrence.

The Super Mini Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR USB Adapter features a blue LED that lets you know it’s working as well. Here’s a picture of the adapter in action, it’s so small that it has just enough body to grab it to unplug it, my case has an access door over the USB ports, I can close the door and leave the adapter installed.

I have another Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR USB Adapter that I used to connect my computers together in a network with the Super Mini Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR USB Adapter, setting up the PAN (personal area network) was easy to do, but the internet sharing part was a pain that I never got to work correctly. It’s not a big deal though, I was just going for transferring files back and forth really…

I also own two sets of Bluetooth headphones, the Logitech Freepulse and a Bluetake set with microphone, both sets worked flawless with this adapter.

You can connect up to seven devices, I don’t have that many, but I guess it could come in handy for those that do…

The software is your basic Bluetooth stuff, if you’ve used any of this type of software or even the Windows Bluetooth Stack you’ll know how to use this as well. It can easily search for your devices automatically with options for Express or Custom modes.

I’m not going to get into explaining the software as it’s all pretty much the same with no surprises to be had.

The only drawback I can see is that it’s so small you could easily lose it, of course it does come with the necklace but I don’t see many people wearing a Bluetooth USB adapter as a fashion accessory… The size is not really a negative point though, it’s just my observations on this product

Summary:

The Super Mini Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR USB Adapter is a great little device that offers true portability and work perfectly.

I encountered no problems at all with connectivity and the range was actually a couple feet more than the rated 10 meters or 33 feet. Transfer speeds were fast, as fast as can be expected with Bluetooth v2.0 with EDR and using them with my Logitech Freepulse headphones I experienced clear, crisp sound.

DragonSteelMods gives the Super Mini Bluetooth v2.0 + EDR USB Adapter a 5 out of 5 score.

Pros:

-Super small

-Includes Bluetooth stack

-Easy to use

-Easy installation

Cons:

-None really
