NZXT Cryo LX Notebook Cooler

NZXT Cryo LX Notebook Cooler

Today we will be looking at the third
product in our quartet of NZXT review items. Previously we checked
out two of the NZXT cases, for this review we will look at something
slightly different: a laptop cooler. The NZXT
Cryo LX is a beast of a notebook cooler designed to cool massive
machines such as the Apple MacBook Pro 17”, the Alienware m17X or
the Dell Studio 17.

Like
most people, notebook coolers come in all shapes and sizes. If you
are looking for something light and portable, then the NXZT Cryo LX
is not meant for you. It carries the self proclaimed title “world’s
largest full aluminum notebook cooler” for good reason. Thankfully
NZXT also designed it to be easily transportable with a fold up
design.

This
notebook cooler was created for maximal cooling performance; is
composed of 3mm aluminum and includes three 120 mm adjustable fans.
One distinctive feature from most other coolers is the addition of
four USB ports on the rear of the Cryo LX. This is the first time I
have come across this feature on a laptop cooler. Seems to perfect
if you use the the Cryo LX in one area all the time; making the
device a short of mini docking station.

Latosta Portable Laptop Stand

Latosta Portable Laptop Stand

One of the first products that I ever
reviewed for Dragonsteelmods was a laptop stand. For today’s
review I have come full circle as I am going to discuss a novel
product from a company called lightlaptopstands.com called the
Latosta Portable Laptop Stand
.
It is designed to passive cool your machine while providing an
ergonomic angle to work at in a truly portable form. This is a
simple product that falls under the “why didn’t I think of that”
category.

Basically the
product is comprised of two simple metal brackets that slide onto
each side of the laptop and elevates the back of the machine off the
work surface. Imagine the flip down tabs on the back of desktop
keyboards; that is the mechanism at work with this product.

According to its
creator – Alan Starner his impetus for designing this product was
the lack of truly portability in portable laptop stands. Well the
Latosta Portable Laptop
Stand couldn’t be any more portable! Let’s take a closer look.

XPAD SLIM Non-slip Laptop Cooler & Heatshield

XPAD SLIM Non-slip Laptop Cooler & Heatshield

Laptops are great products, they allow
us to take our computers with us easily to get work done and have fun
as well. There’s one problem with most laptops though, they’re really
not meant to be on your lap, they all can get fairly hot and being on
your lap is the possibly of covering the vents or fans making them
even hotter and even more uncomfortable to use.

There are many types of laptop coolers
and pads out there, but many of them are big and bulky and also many
have fans in them requiring power thus draining your battery a bit
quicker than normal. Quite a while back I reviewed the Xpad laptop
cooler and found it to be a very nice product overall, today I’ve got
the latest version, the Xpad Slim. The Xpad Slim is much thinner than
it’s predecessor, and lighter, though it is essentially the same
look, an X style pattern of raised bumps that lifts your laptop up to
allow better airflow under it, while at the same time shielding you
legs from the heat.

So continue on to learn more…

Vizo Ninja HS Notebook Cooler

No matter what laptop you’ve got it
generates heat, it happens because the heat generating components
inside are packed so closely together, and as we all know, some
laptops get hotter than others.

Today I’m taking a look at the Ninja HS
Notebook Cooler from Vizo, it’s a very different sort of laptop
cooler than I have ever seen. It features adjustable fans that can
move from side to side and the entire fan assembly can move forward
and backward as well so you can pinpoint cool the hot spot on your

LapLogic G800 & W800 Aerogel Extreme LapDesks

LapLogic G800 & W800 Aerogel Extreme LapDesks

In my time at DragonSteelMods, I have had an opportunity to review several laptop lap desk solutions, some have been outstanding and others less so. Today I will be looking at the latest two products from LapLogic . The G800 Aerogel Extreme LapDesk & W800 Aerogel Extreme LapDesk are the newest members of the LapLogic family and these pads have some impressive technology behind them. These LapDesks incorporate Aspen Aerogels, which is a company that uses nano-technology for their insulation. This technology allows their insulation to provide protection from even the most extreme temperature ranges, just check out their demo involving a blow torch and dry ice. Don’t believe me, check out their video! http://www.aerogel.com

Now, I know we will never be using a blow torch or placing our laptops on a block of dry ice, but having that type of protection available is definitely nice! Aerogel insulation holds the Guinness Book of World Records record for best thermal insulation known to man, besides the Aerogel used, LapLogic has some other tricks up their sleeve to make these some of the best lapdesks in the market. Other key features include integrated ½” standoffs with a special no slip material and C²R Thermal Technology to block most forms of heat transfer.

The G800 is the smaller, more portable model while the W800 provides extra space to use as a mouse pad, storage surface or even as a drink holder. The extra space on the W800 is composed of a 10×8” Scotch Guard coated nylon mouse pad.

So let’s find out if space age technology truly makes the best lapdesk in the world. Let’s get started…..

We’ve got many laptop accessories to choose from, many companies are making them these days and the market is becoming saturated with them really… In a market where there are so many choices companies need to have a product that stands out from the rest, one such company is Lapworks, from the beginning they’ve had very interesting and innovative products that are well made and do the job required of them.

Today for review I’ve got Lapworks latest product, the Attache Laptop Stand, it’s labeled a stand but this version does feature two silent fans to help cool your laptop and it adds an additional four USB ports that can be used with your laptop.

Let’s find out if this newest product from Lapworks holds to their tradition of making inventive and useful products. I’ve tested the Attache Laptop Stand with two different laptops to see how it performs not only for cooling but for actual usefulness…

Lapinator Laptop Desk and Mousitizer Review and Comparison

November 30, 2007
By

I’ve reviewed several laptop desks, stands and cooling pad types of accessories over my years of reviewing products and I’ve really yet to find one that is perfectly designed the way I want it to be, or at least how I think it should be.

Today for review I’ve got another product in the laptop desk category, the Lapinator, and they’ve also sent me the Mousitizer accessory as well to go with it. I can easily say that the Lapinator is one of the better products of this type, it does what it is advertised to do, it keeps the heat from your legs. Keeping the heat away from you though isn’t everything a laptop desk should do, it should be comfortable, well made, and it should also help keep your laptop cool. The Lapinator is and does most of this well, but I’ve put it up against three others that I have on hand as a comparison, so continue on to learn more about the Lapinator and see how it stands up to the competition…

Thermaltake iXoft / Lapinator Plus Comparison Review

November 25, 2007
By

One of the first reviews that I wrote for DragonSteelMods was for a laptop desk from LapWorks. Today, I return to my roots to look at two new laptop desk/thermal mat solutions.

The first is from the folks at Thermaltake, who are known for their various PC cases, components and desktop accessories. They have a released the uniquely named iXoft, which is a thermal mat, that is light weight, portable and fits laptops from twelve to seventeen inches.

The other product I will be looking at today is the equally uniquely named Lapinator Plus from a company aptly named – Lapinator. Now this sounds like a laptop desk worthy of a certain governor from California. The Lapinator Plus provides eighteen inches of work space and is designed to be comfortable as well as cooling. Weighing in at 15 ounces, it is certainly one of the lightest laptop desk solutions available.

Lets see how these two products stack up and how well they keep a laptop cool and comfortable. Lets get started.

October 23, 2007

The Ninja II is the latest version of Vizos notebook cooler line of products. While the original Ninja was designed for 8 to 15 laptops, the next version fits 15-17 large-size widescreen notebook PCs.
