Review: Hades-Gaming Styx GP1 Gaming Mousepad

Tonight we game in HELL!! Err, well sort of anyway… The product I’ve got for review today is from a new company called Hades-Gaming. It’s a gaming mousepad called the Styx GP1, and honestly I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and overall performance of this mousepad.

It not only looks very cool with it’s metallic red surface, but it’s very slick and highly accurate. The Styx GP1 is a cloth and plastic hybrid type of pad, it has a hard surface but yet it can be rolled for storage or transporting. It’s the first of it’s kind that I’ve had the chance to review and I am truly impressed by it’s quality and accuracy in all thins I’ve done with it.

A Better Look at Things

:

There’s no pretty packaging for the Styx GP1 Gaming Mousepad, just the pad and that’s it. Fancy packaging is nice and all, but it’s nice to see they put their money into the R&D of the actual pad and not into the marketing with fancy packaging.

There are a few markings on the pad, the Hades-Gaming logo in the right bottom corner, and across the bottom is the glyph for Pluto or Hades. There is also a warning sticker as well to remind the user not to stab, cut or over roll the mat or damage can occur.

The mat itself is very thin, and has a rubber backing to make sure it stays in place where you put it.

Installation, Testing and Comparison

Here’s a picture of my OCZ Equalizer Mouse on the Styx GP1 for size comparison, you can see it’s fairly large but not too big as to take up a lot of space on your desk.

For my gaming and general use though I use my Logitech G5 Rev2 Laser Gaming Mouse on my main system, the OCZ Equalizer is on my secondary system I use primarily for testing…

The first thing I noticed about the Styx GP1 Mousepad is it’s looks, it’s a very attractive mousepad, yes I know looks aren’t everything but it’s nice to see something besides plain black that the majority of mousepads are. The metallic surface is very cool and adds to the overall aesthetics of the Styx GP1 while supposedly helping the accuracy and tracking abilities of your mouse.

Quite a few games were released recently and of course I played most of them, Gears of War and Crysis being the two main ones that I played using the Styx GP1 mousepad. During gaming I found the Styx GP1 to be excellent, my G5 just glides across the surface as though it were ice, and I also have to note that it is very quiet as well. If you run your fingers across the surface there is a slight rough texture to it, but yet it feels smooth.

The Styx GP1 is so smooth that when I put my G5 down on it the tension from the cord actually pushed the G5 across the pad, very interesting and cool.

Tracking with the Styx GP1 is just excellent, it’s as though I don’t have to move the mouse as far to cover the same distance I would on other pads. There is no skipping at all, the accuracy of the G5 seems improved while using the Styx GP1, no matter what types of movements, quick, fast, jerking, or very slow my G5 never missed the mark while on this mousepad. It truly is a great mousing surface that anyone would love to use.

The Hades-Gaming Styx GP1 is almost perfect, yes I said almost, the one problem I found is that it hasn’t gotten flat yet, there are still slight curls on the left and right side of the pad. I tried rolling it the other way but that didn’t do anything. It doesn’t effect using you mouse, but I just like my mousepads to be flat.

Summary:

For a newcomer onto the scene I think Hades-Gaming has got a great product on its hands, the Styx GP1 mousepad is an excellent choice for gaming and of course all around daily use.

The Styx GP1 is everything I personally prefer in a pad, a slick hard surface, a very thin profile, excellent tracking and accuracy, and of course it can easily be transported and it looks great.

The only complaint I could have about this mousepad is that it hasn’t yet become truly flat, after two plus weeks of using the Styx GP1 it still has slight curls on the right and left sides.

DragonSteelMods gives the Styx GP1 gaming mouse pad a 4.5 out of 5 score and our Recommended Award as well.

Pros:

-Thin

-Lightweight

-Very slick

-Excellent tracking

-Looks cool

Cons:

-Takes a while to get flat

I would like to thank Hades-Gaming for the chance to review the Styx GP1 gaming mouse pad and for their support of DSM.
