C2D 6420 vs C2Q 6600 Quad Vs. Dual Comparison

Testing Platform Etc

Here’s a couple shots of the CPU itself along with my CPU-Z information, yes I got the G0 revision, luck of the draw I guess…

My system consists of:

EVGA nForce 680i SE Motherboard 122-CK-NF63-TR

EVGA e-GeForce 8600GTS 256MB 256-P2-N761-AR (x2)

2gigs of OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-Ready Edition Ram

Ultra X3 1000Watt Power Supply

4 200gig hard drives

-A modified Corsair Nautilus liquid cooling system was used to cool the Q6600 and the E6420 CPUs during all testing.

-I have Windows XP and Vista installed on separate hard drives so the system specs are exactly the same for both operating systems.

-The OCZ ram was running in EPP mode which means it was running at 4-4-4-15 @1T @800Mhz

On the next couple pages you’ll find the results from the standard testing suites like SiSoft Sandra XI, 3dMark06, SuperPi, TMPEGnc, benchmarks using Crysis CPU/GPU tests and scores for FarCry as well, both with SLI enabled and not enabled.

There are three pages total, the first page will be only XP results, the second page will be Vista results, but the third page will be XP Vs Vista performance using the C2Q Q6600 only to see how well each OS handles the quad core.

-As a side note, or FYI, both operating systems are of the 32bit flavor…
